»Z romanom Don Kihot, ki je bila sen (1986) Kathy Acker apropriira Cervantesov izvirnik, da bi z novim besedilom razsula svet, v katerem živi… Uprizoritev montažno sledi metodi cut-up, ki je tudi metoda pisanja Acker. Obstoječe situacije iz romana tako razširja z referencami iz popkulture, politične scene in literarnega kanona ter s specifično narativno logiko sledi avtoričinemu biografskemu in avtofikcijskemu načinu pripovedi. Don Kihot se tako neprestano prepleta s Kathy Acker, njene prigode pa z avtoričino biografijo,« je zapisal prevajalec, avtor dramatizacije in dramaturg uprizoritve Nik Žnidaršič.

Barbara Kozłowska je bila ena od pionirjev performativne umetnosti na Poljskem in predstavnica avantgarde v Vroclavu – takrat enem najživahnejših in najnaprednejših krajev v regiji. Čeprav je zaključila študij na Fakulteti za keramiko (z diplomo iz arhitekturnega slikarstva), je kmalu opustila tradicionalne medije in te zamenjala z bolj efemernimi dejavnostmi.
Barbara Kozłowska se je rodila v Tarnobrzegu (Poljska), kamor se je njena družina preselila po izbruhu druge svetovne vojne. Vojna je hudo zaznamovala njeno življenje. Leta 1940 je bil njen oče umorjen v koncentracijskem taborišču Dachau, kamor so zaprli tudi enega njenih bratov, ki je sodeloval pri opozicijskih dejavnostih. Umetnica težkega začetka svojega življenja ni nikoli pozabila. Tragedija se je nadaljevala tudi v povojnih letih, ko se je sama začela zavedati, kako lahko krut politični sistem uniči življenje posameznika. Na koncu se je uprla komunističnemu režimu – sistemu, ki je omejeval njeno svobodo prostega gibanja.
Barbara Kozłowska je potovanja enačila s svobodo To načelo je vplivalo na njeno celotno konceptualno dejavnost, kar se odraža v delu Mejna črta (1967–1990), ki je nastajalo več desetletij. Barbara Kozłowska je od leta 1967 označevala točke na zemljevidu sveta ter risala imaginarno črto, ki jo je nameravala potegniti čez ves svet in vse do Lune. Na ta način je premagovala formalne in politične težave, s katerimi se je spopadala v resničnem življenju. Da bi konceptu podarila konkretnejšo podobo, je obiskovala številne kraje, vključno z nekdanjo Jugoslavijo, kjer je iz peska oblikovala stožce. Svojo pot je nadaljevala proti plažam na različnih koncih sveta, kjer je drugega na drugega postavljala kamne ali preprosto dokumentirala svojo prisotnost.
Čeprav se je Barbara Kozłowska izrecno oddaljila od feminizma, njena dela sodijo med najbolj izrazite prispevke k poljski umetnosti. Odpirajo kritične poglede na spol in umetnost, ki dandanes ponujajo nove možnost interpretacije.

Barbara Kozłowska was a forerunner of performance art in Poland and a participant in the Wrocław avant-garde scene—one of the most vibrant and progressive places on the region’s map at that time. Although she graduated from the Faculty of Ceramics (with a degree in architectural painting), she quickly abandoned traditional media in favor of ephemeral activities.
Kozłowska was born in Tarnobrzeg (Poland), where her family had been relocated at the outbreak of World War II. The war would leave a deep imprint on Kozłowska’s life. In 1940, her father was murdered in the Dachau concentration camp; and one of her brothers, who was involved in opposition activities, was also imprisoned there. The artist was always mindful of the tragic nature of her early years. And tragedy would continue into the post-war years, when she herself became aware of how an impervious political system could crush the life of an individual. She ended up rebelling against the communist regime, a system that restricted her ability to move freely.
Kozłowska identified travel with freedom. This axiom informed her entire conceptual activity, and translated into the work Border Line (1967–1990), which unfolded over decades. From 1967 onwards, Kozłowska began marking points on the globe, drawing an imaginary line that she intended to run across the globe; and all the way to the Moon. This was her way of overcoming the formal and political difficulties of her reality. In order to make the concept more concrete, she visited various places, including the former Yugoslavia, where she made cones out of sand. She would travel further afield to beaches around the world, where she stacked stones or simply documented her presence.
Although Kozłowska explicitly distanced herself from feminism, her works are among the most distinct contributions to Polish art. They offer critical perspectives on gender and art that present us with new possibilities for interpretation today.

Razstava predstavlja najpomembnejša dela Barbare Kozłowske iz šestdesetih in sedemdesetih let 20. stoletja, ki pripovedujejo o njeni subjektivnosti in izražajo svobodo znotraj političnega sistema, v katerem je živela. Barbara Kozłowska je bila ena od pionirk performansa na Poljskem in del vroclavske avantgardne scene – ene najbolj živahnih in progresivnih umetniških središč v regiji tistega časa. Približno v istem času, ko se je slovenska skupina OHO preselila v Vipavsko dolino, je Barbara Kozłowska zapustila svoj atelje v Vroclavu in se odpravila na plažo. Čeprav je diplomirala na Oddelku za keramiko (smer arhitekturno slikarstvo), je kmalu opustila tradicionalne medije v prid efemernim umetniškim praksam.

The exhibition presents the most important works by Barbara Kozłowska from the 1960s and 1970s, which tell about her subjectivity and express her freedom within the political system in which she lived. She was one of the pioneers of performance art in Poland and a participant in the Wrocław avant-garde scene – one of the most vibrant and progressive places on the regional map at that time. At the same time, when the Slovenian OHO Group resettled to the Vipava Valley, Barbara Kozłowska left her Wrocław studio and hit the beach. Barbara Kozłowska was a forerunner of performance art in Poland and a participant in the Wrocław avant-garde scene—one of the most vibrant and progressive places on the region’s map at that time. Although she graduated from the Faculty of Ceramics (with a degree in architectural painting), she quickly abandoned traditional media in favor of ephemeral activities.
Kozłowska was born in Tarnobrzeg (Poland), where her family had been relocated at the outbreak of World War II. The war would leave a deep imprint on Kozłowska’s life. In 1940, her father was murdered in the Dachau concentration camp; and one of her brothers, who was involved in opposition activities, was also imprisoned there. The artist was always mindful of the tragic nature of her early years. And tragedy would continue into the post-war years, when she herself became aware of how an impervious political system could crush the life of an individual. She ended up rebelling against the communist regime, a system that restricted her ability to move freely.
Kozłowska identified travel with freedom. This axiom informed her entire conceptual activity, and translated into the work Border Line (1967–1990), which unfolded over decades. From 1967 onwards, Kozłowska began marking points on the globe, drawing an imaginary line that she intended to run across the globe; and all the way to the Moon. This was her way of overcoming the formal and political difficulties of her reality. In order to make the concept more concrete, she visited various places, including the former Yugoslavia, where she made cones out of sand. She would travel further afield to beaches around the world, where she stacked stones or simply documented her presence.
Although Kozłowska explicitly distanced herself from feminism, her works are among the most distinct contributions to Polish art. They offer critical perspectives on gender and art that present us with new possibilities for interpretation today.

Film Dekleta ne jočejo govori o hrepenenju šestih deklet po svobodnem življenju, ki bi si ga določale same, o želji po ljubezni brez paternalizma, tujega nadzora nad lastnimi telesi, z enakimi pravicami.
Doživimo, kako se dekleta soočajo s krizami pubertete, kako v težkih situacijah samozavestno sprejemajo odločitve, njihov pogumen boj proti brutalnim tradicijam, kot je obrezovanje, proti družbenim omejtivam in pritisku, proti obsedenosti z lepoto in predsodkom – tudi ob soočanjih s travmo in izgubo.

In Girls Don’t Cry we learn about the longing of 6 girls for a self-determined life in freedom, their desire to fall in love, without paternalism, without foreign power over their own bodies, with equal rights. We experience how they deal with the crisis of puberty, their self-confident decisions in difficult situations, their courageous fight against brutal traditions such as circumcision, against social constraints and pressure, against beauty mania and prejudice, even in the face of trauma and loss.
