Let’s Get Lost je biografsko-dokumentarni film o Chetu Bakerju, enem redkih jazzovskih glasbenikov, ki se je proslavil ne le kot inštrumentalist – bil je trobentač s takoj prepoznavnim zvokom – temveč tudi kot pevec. Baker je z delovanjem začel v 50. letih in obveljal za enega vodilnih predstavnikov cool jazza, sloga, ki sta ga odlikovala romantika in melanholija. Za njegovo najbolj znano vokalno interpretacijo še danes velja izvedba standarda My Funny Valentine. V filmu Bakerja, ki se je ves čas boril z odvisnostjo od drog, spremljamo prav od 50. let, torej od preboja med najbolj čislane jazziste, ko je igral z velikani (Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, Russ Freeman), do selitve v Evropo v 80. letih in tragične smrti, ko je, star le 58 let, umrl po padcu z drugega nadstropja amsterdamskega hotela. Režiser Bruce Weber, sicer priznani fotograf, je leta 1987, ki se je izkazalo za zadnje v glasbenikovem življenju, več mesecev preživel z Bakerjem. V filmu se redko videni arhivski posnetki prepletajo s pogovori z Bakerjevimi sorodniki in prijatelji. Film je prejel nagrado kritikov na beneškem festivalu in nominacijo za oskarja v kategoriji dokumentarcev. »Čarobno. Let’s Get Lost is a biographical documentary about Chet Baker, one of the few jazz musicians who became famous not only as an instrumentalist – he was a trumpeter with an instantly recognizable sound – but also as a singer. Baker began his career in the 1950s and was considered one of the leading representatives of cool jazz, a style characterized by romance and melancholy. His most famous vocal interpretation is still considered to be his rendition of the standard My Funny Valentine. The film follows Baker, who struggled with drug addiction throughout his life, from the 1950s, from his breakthrough as one of the most prominent jazz musicians, when he played with the greats (Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, Russ Freeman), to his move to Europe in the 1980s and his tragic death, when he, at the age of only 58, died after falling from the second floor of an Amsterdam hotel. Director Bruce Weber, a renowned photographer, spent several months with Baker in 1987, which turned out to be the last of the musician’s life. The film combines rarely seen archival footage with interviews with Baker’s relatives and friends. Let’s Get Lost won the Critics’ Choice Award at the Venice Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar in the documentary category. “Weber’s visual intuitions are as lyrical and right as Baker’s musical instincts.” (Pauline Kael, The New Yorker)
