TERENSKE VAJE / Napovedi koncev – Julian Lavrič: Podrum: Rezervno mesto

Predavanje v sklopu obrazstavnega programa razstave Napovedi koncev bo zaklonišče obravnavalo kot arhitekturno tipologijo, ki jo poleg zaščitne funkcije oblikujejo predvsem kulturne predstave o nevarnosti, preživetju in življenju po katastrofi. Ti vidiki določajo predvideno vrsto in trajanje nesreče ter obliko življenja, ki naj bi sledila. Iz tega neposredno izvirajo kapaciteta, dimenzioniranje in notranja ureditev prostora – od zaklonišč za kratkotrajen umik do podzemnih sistemov z lastno infrastrukturo in zalogami za dolgotrajno preživetje.

S primerjavo zaklonišč v Sloveniji ter v širšem evropskem in globalnem kontekstu bo predavanje raziskovalo, kako različne politične zgodovine, družbene ureditve in kulturni imaginariji ustvarjajo različne modele umika. Pri tem se bo dotaknilo tudi popkulturnih podob zaklonišča (npr. serija videoiger Fallout), v katerih zaklonišče postane zaprto okolje za izdelovanje novih družb in nadzorovanih prihodnosti.

Toda zaklonišča ne ostajajo nujno zvesta svojemu prvotnemu namenu. V obdobjih mirovanja jih naselijo druge prakse. Postanejo skladišča, vadbeni prostori, klubi in začasna zatočišča različnih subkultur. Predavanje bo tako sledilo zaklonišču od infrastrukture izrednega stanja do prostora vsakdanjega življenja – prostora, ki čaka na katastrofo, medtem pa v njem že nastajajo drugačni načini skupnega bivanja.

Julian Lavrič je absolvent fakultete za arhitekturo v Ljubljani, pisec, novinar in stripovski avtor. Trenutno je soavtor oddaje Radio Bau Bau na Radiu Študent in sodeluje pri časniku študentov arhitekture SOHA. Deluje na presečišču arhitekture, vizualne kulture in glasbe. Konkretneje ga pri delu zanimajo odnos med telesom in arhitekturo, pogoji in tehnologija produkcije arhitekturnega dela ter obrobne, neformalne in gverilske prostorske prakse.

Urška Škerl je krajinska arhitektka, urednica platforme Landezine in prijateljica Radia Študent, predvsem kot soustvarjalka oddaje Radio Bau Bau. Sodeluje s kolektivom Krater in Inštitutom Egon March. V lastni praksi raziskuje termine narava, javno dobro in uberarchitecture. V prispevku se pojavi kot podpornica avtorju Julijanu Lavriču.

lecture

The lecture as part of the accompanying programme of the exhibition Predictions of Endings will examine the bomb shelter as an architectural typology shaped not only by its protective function, but primarily by cultural notions of danger, survival, and life after a catastrophe. These aspects determine the anticipated nature and duration of a disaster, as well as the form of life expected to follow. A shelter’s capacity, dimensions, and interior layout derive directly from these considerations, ranging from spaces for short-term retreat to underground systems equipped with their own infrastructure and supplies for long-term survival.

By comparing shelters in Slovenia with those in a broader European and global context, the lecture will explore how distinct political histories, social orders, and cultural imaginaries create different models of retreat. In doing so, it will touch upon pop-cultural depictions of the shelter (such as the Fallout video game series), where the shelter turns into an enclosed environment for crafting new societies and controlled futures.

Yet shelters do not necessarily remain bound to their original purpose. In times of peace, other practices inhabit them. They become storehouses, rehearsal spaces, clubs, and temporary refuges for various subcultures. The lecture will thus trace the shelter’s trajectory from an infrastructure of state of emergency to a space of everyday life – a space waiting for catastrophe, while alternative modes of living together are already taking shape within it.

Julian Lavrič is a final-year student at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, a writer, journalist, and comic artist. He currently co-hosts the show Radio Bau Bau on Radio Študent and contributes to SOHA, the newspaper for architecture students. His work operates at the intersection of architecture, visual culture, and music. More specifically, his interests lie in the relationship between the body and architecture, the conditions and technologies of architectural production, and marginal, informal, and guerrilla spatial practices.

Urška Škerl is a landscape architect, editor of the Landezine platform, and a friend of Radio Študent, primarily as a co-creator of the show Radio Bau Bau. She collaborates with the Krater collective and the Egon March Institute. In her own practice, she explores the concepts of nature, the public good, and uberarchitecture. In this piece, she appears as a supporter of the author Julian Lavrič.
