Tokrat v ospredje postavljajo svoj notranji jezik in načine, kako ta nastaja v gestah in medsebojnih odzivih.

𝐊𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐤𝐭𝐢𝐯 𝐈𝐋𝐘 sestavljajo umetnice Iza Štrumbelj Oblak, Lea Topolovec in Yana Deliyska.

👉Join the ILY collective for a participatory workshop where we perform the handshake gesture to explore how a shared system of communication forms between bodies, and how this system is transmitted, transformed, and reinterpreted.

✍️The exhibition Handshakes by the ILY collective – comprising Iza Štrumbelj Oblak, Lea Topolovec, and Yana Deliyska – draws on a fictional family that the artists are developing as a framework for their collaborative practice. This time, the artists focus on their internal language and how it emerges through gestures and mutual responses.
The collective perceives the handshake as a choreography of greeting. This everyday social ritual has a familiar sequence, but the other person’s response can alter it. While the greeting establishes initial contact, repetition gradually transforms the gesture. A handshake can be adopted and passed on, and with each new iteration its meaning may change. Something that begins as a familiar gesture remains open to whatever happens in the encounter.
Visitors are invited to work in pairs to devise their own version of the handshake and to write instructions for it. In doing so, they translate the physical act into words, whilst the written record allows the gesture to be performed anew . This opens the collective’s internal language to the audience: its gestures begin to circulate among other people, and with each repetition, they find themselves slightly transformed and possibly imbued with a different meaning.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐋𝐘 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 are Iza Štrumbelj Oblak, Lea Topolovec, and Yana Deliyska, artists who share an interest in art as a space for encounter, exchange, and the formation of temporary communities. In their collaborative practice, they use documentary media to record role-play and develop tools and scenarios for participatory encounters with the audience. Their work draws on personal memories, expectations, and desires, exploring the need for support and the conditions for collaborative artistic practice. Their projects emerge through a process that straddles the line between fiction and the practical needs of collaboration. The collective showcased their work at the exhibition Speculative Gatherings at Slakthuset in Gothenburg (2024), the 6th Triennial of Young Artists – PREMIERA 2025 at the Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art (2025), and the exhibition Friends with Benefits at the Škuc Gallery (2026).
