The Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, the Cultural and Congress Centre Cankarjev dom, and Goethe-Institut Ljubljana kindly invite you, as part of the “Philosophical March”, to the workshop “Hegel and Pragmatism”, which will take place on Monday, 9 March 2026, at Cankarjev dom (Hall M1).

The workshop will focus on the relationship between Hegelian philosophy and pragmatism, highlighting common themes such as practice, normativity, and sociality, as well as the tensions between the two traditions. Contributions will address how Hegel’s conceptual development, theory of recognition, and understanding of the rationality of history can be put into dialogue with pragmatist emphasis on action, critical judgment, and the fallibility of knowledge. Instead of treating Hegel and pragmatism as opposing currents, the workshop will illuminate contemporary attempts to read Hegel as a source of practice-oriented philosophy and at the same time critically evaluate the limits of such convergence.

In March 2026, a series of international events will, through a dialogue between Hegel and pragmatism, an in-depth examination of Fichte’s intersubjectivity, and a reflection on Spinoza’s epistolary philosophy, shed light on fundamental questions of practice community, and the state in German classical thought and its contemporary resonance.

Filozofska fakulteta Univerze v Ljubljani, Cankarjev dom in Goethe-Institut Ljubljana v sklopu “Filozofskega marca” vljudno vabijo na delavnico Hegel in pragmatizem, ki bo v ponedeljek, 9. 3. 2026, v Cankarjevem domu (dvorana M1).

Delavnica bo osredotočena na razmerje med heglovsko filozofijo in pragmatizmom, pri čemer bodo izpostavljene skupne teme, kot so praksa, normativnost in družbenost, pa tudi na napetosti med obema tradicijama. Prispevki bodo obravnavali, kako je mogoče Heglov pojmovni razvoj, teorijo pripoznanja in razumevanje umnosti zgodovine postaviti v dialog s pragmatističnimi poudarki na delovanju, kritični presoji in nezanesljivosti spoznanja. Namesto obravnave Hegla in pragmatizma kot nasprotujočih si smeri bo delavnica osvetlila sodobne poskuse branja Hegla kot vira prakse usmerjene filozofije ter hkrati kritično ovrednotila meje takšnega zbliževanja.

Die Philosophische Fakultät der Universität Ljubljana, das Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Cankarjev dom und das Goethe-Institut Ljubljana laden im Rahmen des „Philosophischen März“ herzlich zum Workshop „Hegel und Pragmatismus“ ein, der am Montag, dem 9. März 2026, im Cankarjev dom (Saal M1) stattfindet.

Der Workshop wird sich mit dem Verhältnis zwischen der hegelianischen Philosophie und dem Pragmatismus auseinandersetzen. Dabei werden zusammenhängende Themen wie Praxis, Normativität und Sozialität sowie die Spannungen zwischen Hegels Philosophie und dem Pragmatismus diskutiert. Die Beiträge untersuchen, wie sich Hegels begriffliche Entwicklung, seine Theorie der Anerkennung und sein Verständnis der Vernünftigkeit der Geschichte in einen Dialog mit den pragmatistischen Betonungen von Handeln, kritischem Urteilen und der Fehlbarkeit von Erkenntnis bringen lassen. Anstatt Hegel und Pragmatismus als gegensätzliche Richtungen zu behandeln, wird der Workshop zeitgenössische Ansätze hervorheben, die Hegel als Quelle einer praxisorientierten Philosophie lesen und zugleich die Grenzen einer solchen Annäherung kritisch reflektieren.
